The Myth of the Hero Inventor

"Mark Lemley describes the “Hero Inventor” mythos, the idea that one man or woman upends the current consensus, driving innovation forward. But that’s not how innovation happens. Innovation, according to Mark Lemley, occurs by “incremental improvements generally made by a number of different inventors at roughly the same time.”

The mythical sole hero inventor has not been seen in my observations either. The innovators that I have observed seem to possess a few traits in common, notably their capability to network with others and a certain kind of bohemian mindset that isn't afraid to reveal its self to others in hopes of finding a like minded ally. Innovators maybe alone in their minds, or isolated from the fashionable people, but inevitably the successful are surrounded by people who look after them with love. Sherlock and Watson types. Look for the Watson and find the Holmes.
